GM Goodwrench is aware of this attack ad, and the ad agency is working to get a more impactful message out there to counter it. But let's not wait - each of you have the ability to negate this message right at your level in your actions and advertising!
Good Selling!
Please find the newest Jiffy Lube radio spot attached. This spot is the newest ad from Jiffy Lube attacking dealerships and dealership service.
- Spot positions the dealership as inconvenient
- Uses auto industry recession in a mocking way
- Pokes fun at dealerships courtesy van
Tag line: "Jiffy Lube. Now, more than ever" is a direct attack on dealerships during this economic crisis. This line is subtle but strong letting customers know that now is the time to go to Jiffy Lube, a place they can trust, unlike the dealerships.
According to VMS tracking, this spot is playing regionally in Chicago, Washington D.C., Sacramento, Modesto, Stockton, and Philadelphia.
Script:
Mvo says, "I needed some maintenance on my vehicle so I called my dealer." (Sfx: phone rings). They said they could get me in in about a week.
Mvo: a week?
Mv1: yep.
Mvo: I have to wait a week for scheduled maintenance?
Mv1: uhh, yup.
Mvo: but if it's sceduled, why do I have to wait? Evidently everybody's so busy there, what? Selling new cars?
Mv1: umm...nope.
Mvo: so I say I'm going to Jiffy Lube. They've got this thing called the Signature Series oil change that can help extend the life of my engine. They've got Jiffy Lube almost everywhere, so you can go to one today. No appointments needed, no waiting a week, come on in now. So then the dealer says-
Mv1: you know, we've got a courtesy van.
Mvo:... for me and six of my closest friends. Jiffy Lube. Now, more than ever.
Mv2: Jiffy Lube proudly offers Pennzoil and Quaker State Motor Oils and products, not just oil, Pennzoil.
